How Are Capsule Houses Heated in Winter? Do They Handle the Cold?

An important question for clients in Romania: does a capsule house hold up in winter, and can you live in it comfortably in the cold? Yes — View Box Houses are designed for year-round use.

Heating is provided primarily by underfloor heating, complemented by the inverter units in each room — a modern solution that warms the space quickly in winter and cools it in summer. The foundation of this comfort is insulation: the side walls have 15–20 cm of polyurethane foam, while the top and bottom of the house have 25–30 cm of foam.

This level of insulation delivers a thermal transfer coefficient close to that of passive houses, which is why our houses qualify for an A energy class. In practice, the house keeps heat inside and significantly reduces energy consumption.

Thanks to their compact size and excellent insulation, a capsule house heats up much faster and more economically than a traditional building. It is ideal for permanent living as well as mountain accommodation, glamping, or weekend retreats — even in the cold season.

Want the full insulation and heating specifications for your model? The View Box Houses team can provide them.
